Shibagau Creek Forest Farmstead
Imagination Incubator and Nature Preserve
The Shibagau Creek Incubator creates opportunities to experience a conscious connection with the land. The blend of creek, farm, and forest embodies a vision of balanced human activity in harmony with the natural world.
The 100 acres provides opportunities for periods of retreat from the overwhelm of contemporary urban living, allowing for personal reflection and thoughtful community connection.
Like-minded groups convene here to share future-oriented thinking on sustainability, conservation, climate change, creative lifestyles and social change. Other programming supports the learning of practical skills related to country life, sustainable practices and knowledge of local flora and fauna through hands-on experience and sharing of knowledge.
A settler farm on the edge of the shield, the fields were partially reforested 60 years ago by our family and the future approach to land use will balance some subsistence cultivation with the new forest and existing marsh lands.
In this first year of growth we will incorporate a few workshops with the quietude of camping and being on the land. It will be our intention to install an additional composting toilet and gravity-fed water lines with solar-heated water for an outdoor shower, so that future guests will have basic infrastructure in this off-grid, valley setting. The house itself will be prepared for guests with loft sleeping space and an expanded solar power system. The outdoor summer kitchen will be expanded. New walking trails will be created in the woods and fields.
Photography and art workshops will be scheduled, incorporating creative vision, a range of media tools and time to reflect in a natural environment on the land.
As the infrastructure develops and we grow the community of like-minded imaginators, practical applications will come into play so that we expand into hosting workshops with invited specialists who lead us in the what and the how: foraging in the forest, barn restoration, nature conservancy, bee-keeping, wholesome ways to embrace weeds, organic farming techniques and one day some animal husbandry for companionship.
